5050BMX Team > Mike Szczesny

So what brought you to Utah from PA?
My wife is from Utah and we both wanted a change from our current lives in Erie and Utah fit perfect for us at the time. I haven’t looked back!

What is your first memory related to BMX?
My first memory is seeing the movie Rad. My mom would rent it for me and I would loop it for like two days straight.

What’s being a father changed about you?
Being a father has made me realize life is just not a party. I have a huge responsibility that I cannot break. Its cool because it keeps me in check.

Is it true that, when you ride your road bike you have a Lance Armstrong get up on?
Its true, full spandex and helmet. I am a hypocrite because I used to make fun of road bikers all the time. Now I’m the weirdo eating Powerbars and tucking while going down hill.

Are you still in touch with the Square One crew?
Not really. I wish. I had some of the best times on and off my bike with those guys. Everyone has there own things going on now and it makes it tough to stay in touch. Squareone never felt like a sponsor or a company to me. It was a family.

What’s better Utah Trails or PA trails?
I would have to say PA. Everyone knows PA is the Trails capital of the world. Utah scene is awesome though because everyone comes together and dials everything in. Riders in PA are spoiled with good dirt and trees for shade.

How long have you been with GT bikes?
Almost a year. Its cool when I was 11 I used to dream of riding for GT(Gary Ellis). So I guess my dreams came true. Thanks Charles.

What is your favorite Trick of all time?
The turn-down by a landslide. There is not a better feeling in the world then getting pissed and just cranking one down. I love it!

What’s with your BMW fetish?
Its the first car I bought with out any help. I remember wanting it so bad. Everyone always told me I would never be able to own anything like that. Especially when at the time I was riding for a living. I could barely afford that thing. So for me it was a big finger in the face to all the haters! I have had one ever since and am currently on my forth one.

Last words?
I just want everyone to remember that BMX was meant to be FUN. So just chill out and let other riders do there own thing and make there own decisions. Its OK if everyone doesn’t act the same.

Thanks to my Family, I love you. Thanks Chuck, Eddie and GT.
